At CALIZA, we are more than a natural stone company—we are the continuation of a legacy that spans over a century. Based in San José, Costa Rica, our family has worked with marbled limestone for five generations, mastering the art of transforming nature’s raw beauty into enduring works of craftsmanship.
What sets us apart is our end-to-end process—we own and operate our own sustainable quarry, manage all processing in-house, and deliver directly to our clients. This allows us to guarantee exceptional quality, consistency, and customization at every stage.
Natural
CALIZA is a 100% natural limestone mined in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Massive and compact, with high density and low porosity, CALIZA Stone is resistant to compression and wear. It stands to things such as pollution, frost, chlorine, rain and wind. It will age beautifully over time.
CALIZA is a marbled limestone with a huge geological history. 25 million years ago, Costa Rica was mostly covered by the ocean. At the current location of San Jose was mostly ocean with some islands. Over time, sediments accumulated in the seabed in horizontal layers, which compacted the limestone.
Due to its origin, this marbled limestone is characterized by the significant presence of fossils, all of which contribute to its distinctively aesthetic. In the stone you can see calcite veins sometimes subtly bear witness to its history.

Sustainable Quarrying: We use low-impact extraction methods that preserve the surrounding ecosystem and minimize waste.
Water Recycling Systems: Our processing facilities are equipped with closed-loop water systems to reduce consumption and prevent contamination.
Local Sourcing, Local Impact: By sourcing and producing locally, we reduce transportation emissions and support Costa Rican communities.
Natural Finishes: Our products are free from harmful chemicals and sealants, making them safe for homes, pools, and the environment.
Heritage
For more than 100 years, one single family and five generations have been part of this journey, it started from extracting and burning the limestone for lime powder to innovate what is now the only stone design studio in Costa Rica, owning end to end process from quarry to sale.
Mined for more than 100 years, our traditional know-how is reliable: extracting, cutting and finishes are the result of decades-old expertise to understand which is the better stone to be used. Our know-how means that we identify only the right stone to be mined and processed into final product.
